"From now on your A-Z will be my primary source of information of American classics! God save American vintage and its great ambassador!" - Miina Karske of Gloria Magazine, Finland
Founded by James Cash Penney in 1902, J.C. Penney is a mid-range American department store with over 1,000 locations. The store, formerly known as Penney’s, was started in Kemmerer, Wyoming, but is now headquartered in Plano, Texas.
Starting out as a “dry goods” store, the retailer sells clothing, shoes, electronics, house wares, furniture, jewelry and beauty products and is the US’s largest general merchandise catalog business. For many years, J.C. Penney’s has produced its own in-house brands, which have gained respect from customers as quality products.
Penney’s were once found in downtown commercial districts across America, but today the stores are anchors in almost all suburban malls. One of the store’s earliest logos declared J.C. Penney “a nationwide institution,” which indeed it is today.
