BUYING, PAYING, GETTING
How do I know that I am getting the right size?
First, check our Size Guides. We make all measurements in centimeters.
To measure our garments, we lay them on a table and measure straight across the garment without stretching the fabric. To know your correct size, you should measure a similar type of garment of your own in the same way.
- The chest or bust is measured from armpit to armpit in the front when the garment lies flat on a table, and then doubling that number.
- The sleeve is measured for long sleeve garments only, from the center of the back of the neck to the bottom of the sleeve.
- The length is measured in the front from the top of the garment to the bottom hem. For jackets, shirts and dresses, the top is the top of the shoulder.
- For skirts, the top is located at the waistband. The waist is measured from one side of the waistband to the other, and then doubling this number.
Our garments are measured from XS-XXL but there can be some variation within those size categories. Therefore it is important that you follow this procedure to make sure that our measurements fit you.
I found something in your online shop last week that I thought of buying, but now I can't seem to find it anymore, what do I do?
Every piece of clothing in our online shop is unique. So when we sell an item, it is sold. We will replace it with a similar item in the same category and size, but it may not look exactly the same as the item you originally saw. Have this in mind when you shop. We believe this makes AMERICANA Classic Vintage a very interesting online shop where you in an easy way can choose between different categories of American classic vintage clothes in your size but where you never quite know what you may find.

AMERICANA's FREE SHIPPING in Europe includes the twenty-seven member-states of the European Union, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. When will I get it?
We ship with the Swedish Posten and DHL. Delivery in Sweden is 1-3 working days, to Europe, 5-8 working days. If you are interested in faster delivery, please contact us at [email protected].
How do I return an item?
Send it back to us within 14 days after having received it with tags still attached. You pay the cost for return shipping and any additional costs for customs and/or handling. We will pay you the full purchase price within 14 days of receiving it from you. The refund will be credited to your original method of payment. QUALITY AND CARE
Does AMERICANA Classic Vintage clean each item of vintage clothing?
Yes, we are vigilant about the care of our vintage pieces. All of our items are professionally steamed using natural elements such as vinegar and water, to gently clean the garment, remove unpleasant smells and bacteria and brighten the colors. Our vintage clothing is clean, has no unwanted smells and looks fresh. It is almost like buying something new, but with a history and knowing that you may the only one around with this item of clothing.
How should I care for my vintage clothing?
This depends on the particular piece of clothing. In general, hang your vintage clothes on wooden hangers and in a place with good air circulation. If you need to wash them, hand-wash garments that are very old and/or delicate and machine-wash other items from time to time, preferably at lower temperatures, say 30-40 degrees. You can also have some garments dry-cleaned, but make sure that this is done in a professional way.
Is wearing vintage clothing good for the environment?
Absolutely! Vintage clothes are recycled items that are given a new life, plus the new owner gains a a jolt of fashion freshness into their wardrobe. Wearing vintage is a small contribution you can make toward improving the enviroment - you feel good AND look good at the same time.
The positive environmental factor is one of our favorite things about AMERICANA and the awesome vintage clothing we sell!
Can vintage clothing be recycled or re-sold several times?
Sure! Unless you spend a fortune on unique designer pieces, how many pieces of new clothing can you expect to keep their value? If the item is cared for by the new owner, it can be re-used or re-sold once again.
Although not every vintage garment is sought-after, there is a collectible market for vintage clothing. Many pieces accrue value with time. Because of these reasons, wearing vintage clothing is always a win-win situation. Vintage is money well spent!

What is vintage clothing?
Vintage clothing is defined as previously-owned clothing, that with age, looks better and maintains style. Time is not the only criteria used to define vintage It also involves elements such as enduring style, perceived quality and accrued value. Vintage clothing usually comes from a different era, but the definition should not be confined only in years.
Why call some used clothes "vintage"?
In fashion, we take the term vintage from the culture of wine. Much like you can have a great vintage wine from a few years back, so too can you have a fantastic piece of vintage clothing that is not technically that old. Like wine, vintage clothing gets better, intensifies in quality and gains value with age.
Some pieces of clothing, that are rare simply because of their age, often transcend the definition of vintage and move into the category of antique or even historical artifact. The value of these items illustrates that with time, vintage clothing can become rare and therefore more sought-after and expensive as a result.
What's the difference between retro and vintage?
In defining clothing, there is a difference between retro and vintage. Retro is distinguished from vintage as new items that are created in the style of, or are inspired by fashions of the past, but are newly produced.
When an item that borrows from an old style is first sold as new, it is indeed defined as retro. Once these items are worn, time moves on and if their style and value are maintained, then they may be eventually defined as vintage.
Can anyone wear vintage clothing?
Of course! People who wear vintage clothing can represent any type of person in the general population. However, people who wear vintage, either a single piece in an outfit or head-to-toe, usually have an interest in fashion and want to have their own individual style.
All of us here at AMERICANA have been wearing & collecting vintage clothing long before there was even the term "vintage." We've always had fun hunting for particular items which stand the test of time in style and quality, or that are unique to wear with contemporary items.
Dating an item and allowing that to be the most important determining factor of whether it was acceptable for our wardrobes or not was never the litmus test for our vintage style.
Are there trends in classic American vintage clothing?
Classic American clothing items will always find their way into both new fashions as well as being a mainstay of vintage clothing. That is because the timeless style of these items will always be in fashion and look great on anyone, in any decade, anywhere.
What we love most about the clothing we sell here at AMERICANA is when people re-mix the classics to create new looks.
